Your teeth will move a bit after your braces are taken off, it's a given that the fit of the retainer isn't going to be as close as the braces. But, it sounds as if the ortho didn't tighten the retainer enough. The retainer should have been adjusted to fit tight when you first got it so that it was as close to your braces were as possible. After a while you will need to get them readjusted again because of wear and stretching. But I would go back in ASAP to make sure your teeth don't move too far that adjustments won't fix it.
As far as the speech impediment goes, you'll have to remember back to when you got braces and words game out with emphasis all screwy. It'll take a little time and concious effort to get used to talking with it on, and most likely when you finally master it you won't be wearing it but only at night.Just had clear plastic retainer fitted please help?
why is your boyfriend happy that you cant talk? thats terrrible hahaha!

the retainer should fit just fine...if it doesnt u need to get ur teeth remolded %26amp; a new retainer...retainers are known to impair the speech while ur wearing them, it sux but its better than having crooked teeth or having to get braces put back on
