Who finds clear plastic retainers rrreally annoying?

You know after braces you have to wear retainers to keep ur teeth in place? Well i only wear them to bed now but when i wake up it's like the inside of my mouth has peeled, like some of the skin brakes off - it doesn't hurt - it's just gross. And i was wondering if anyone has experienced this or knows how to prevent it?Who finds clear plastic retainers rrreally annoying?
Honestly, I think the clear plastic retainers are horrible! My advice is to request that your orthodontist switch you to the other type of retainer, which includes a plastic plate that rests on your palate and a thin metal band/wire attached to the plate that goes across your teeth. They are only a little bit more visible than the clear plastic ';invisalign' style retainers, and it doesn't matter anyway if you are only wearing them at night. I had a horrible experience with the clear plastic retainers, which I was supposed to wear all of the time between the removal of my braces and my dental implant surgery (to maintain the spaces made by my braces for the implants-i was missing two teeth genetically). Over the course of 6 months the upper clear plastic retainer rotted, became dotted with holes, and I believe caused some of the enamel to be stripped off of my teeth (I SWEAR I KEPT THEM CLEAN). They are a stupid invention in my opinion. Also, when I wore both the upper and lower simultaneously at night, I felt like I was choking and even a little sick to my stomache because of how ';stuffed'; they made my mouth feel.

In conclusion, stick to the 'old fashioned' retainers.Who finds clear plastic retainers rrreally annoying?
I find that rinsing my mouth out with lysterine or mouthwash WITH the retainer IN sometimes will help with the gooey buildup. It's kinda just a fact of life after having braces....ah the things people do for beauty.
