How can I make a hamster cage out of a clear plastic storage bin?

And how do I set it up?

Where can I get the bin and mesh lid?How can I make a hamster cage out of a clear plastic storage bin?
Well I made my hamsters an extension using the bin cage plans. I'll show you the sites that I found useful:

EDIT: this second link doesnt work so I'm going to add some spaces so you can see the words:

personally I used the design from the first link, but didn't use the aluminium strips as I couldn't find any. They have not escaped or had any accidents yet :)

I got the bin from a store called 'wilkos', but that's in England. Rubbermaid bins are recommended I think and you can get those from Walmart (so I hear, I've never been to America)

Mesh I would go to a DIY or hardware store for, although again I got mine from Wilkos.

Just follow the walkthrough steps to make one, and dont forget to buy a waterbottle! How can I make a hamster cage out of a clear plastic storage bin?
Hi,

Making your own cages are very much cheaper than buying them, you can convert just about any plastic storage box into cages.

Here's a web page I made a few years ago detailing how you can make one.

They are very simple in design, your dad could make one in less than a hour easily.

Why bother?

They are so cheap from pet shops that it's not worth wasting you time.

You also need to think about the animal, the shop stock will (probably) be better made, safer for the animal, more secure, easier to clean and have less sharp/rough edges to cut your Hamster.

It really isn't a great idea to make your own.
well firstly im not sure if that would be wise considering you have to make it very secure so they dont escape but still with breathing holes and secoundly why bother when you can get one from the store?
