I have some and instead of buying black plastic, I thought I could use some stuff I have from painting, but I'm worried it will let light through and miss the point. Any opinions?I'm starting a garden. Will covering the area with clear plastic work to kill the grass?
try it; if it doesn't do the job, then try something else. I used
black plastic last year, and it worked very well. Maybe if you put some newspapers under the clear plastic, that would help kill the grass?
Good Luck!I'm starting a garden. Will covering the area with clear plastic work to kill the grass?
Clear Plastic may actually promote growth. Black heavy plastic is better at killing grass and weeds. The tarp must be weighed down and sit there a few weeks. I did this technique last summer when I was busy killing all the weeds in the backyard and making way for fresh grass to grow. It took all summer but I didn't have to use herbicides.
I'd give it a try. I used a shovel, and got down on my hands and knees and cleared the grass out of 550 sq. feet before tilling it. It's the hard way to do it, but I think it's best to get the grass completely out.
It will do the job but make sure you secure the the plastic all around. You will see the grass turn yellow than it will die. Be aware that any grass on the ends will survive.
it will kill the grass in time.but will still need to rototill.i use black plstic under my tomatoes and peppers.it keeps moisture in ,keeps weeds out and the black absorbs the suns heat
Yes, clear plastic will let in light and might promote growth. It will also hold in moisture and could promote fungus and mold. Newspapers work better.
why kill it...turn the sod over with a shovel and the roots will die ...in a week when it dries some, till it up with a roto-tiller or hand cultivator...
covering the area with old carpet or thick sections of news paper, but the paper you have to weight down
