Is it possible to tint clear plastic? If so, how do I go through with it?

Alright well, the reason isn't important, but I want to know whether it is possible to tint plastic, not to make it completely opaque but just translucent and somewhat transparent?

Thank you in advance for all helpful and mature answers, they are very appreciated.

P.S. I want to tint it grey/black.Is it possible to tint clear plastic? If so, how do I go through with it?
It really depends on what sort of plastic you are talking about. If you are talking plexiglass or something similar its better to use automotive tint which is a membrane that is applied to the plastic. Eyeglass plastic lenses, plastic bottles, well, about any kind of plastic container can be tinted by mixing a package of black RIT laundry dye in boiling water. Make sure it is disolved all the way, and use a pan that you dont have a problem with trashing. All you do is dip your item and check it often and rinse under fresh water until you get the darkness you want. Make sure the soluton is stirred often as well. Once you get the tint in the material though there is no way to remove it so be careful. Hope I helped......Is it possible to tint clear plastic? If so, how do I go through with it?
Go to Micheal's store and look for glass painting supplies and find the colors you are looking for. I also did the same and did a couple of my windows with the glass paint for design to shelter out the early morning sunshine. You can tint the clear plastic the same way.
yes... you can tint with car tint..

but.... you can also BUY tinted plastic that is made to be that color......

the reason IS important however, because, depending upon WHY you need it, and what kind of plastic, etc, people can give you a more specific and helpful answer.... consider that next time
get some automotive window tint film to put on it.

or experiment with a spray can of plastic paint spraying in a light fog effect.
