Although this may not be causing the mold/mildew in your home, I feel compelled to warn you that if you notice the windows in your home producing a lot of condensation ( then running onto the walls and mildewing) this winter when the heat is on,please get your furnace vent checked to be sure it is not plugged with bird nests. We went through a winter not long ago where the windows dripped moisture and didn't know why until months later when we found our furnace vent pipe packed with bird nests. We were fortunate that the carbon monoxide was not lethal but it would have been by the next winter,I'm sure. What causes mold around the ceilings and windows in a house? 6inches of fiber glass with paper, clear plastic,
air leaks in the walls and ceilings around outlets, windows, air vents if it isn't insulated properly, the hot outside air and cold inside air from the a/c can cause condensation.

It is basically to collision of hot and cold you get condensation. If the situation only seems to be in general area. Then check for roof leaks, If you have an air handler that is mounted in the attic, check the condensation lines for leaks.

If the area that gets moldy on the ceiling correspondes to a roof vent , or vent pipe check to see if the flashing around the vent or pipe is not corroded.

Alot of vent pipes have lead flashing and squirrels will naw at it leaving a gap around a vent pipe coming out of the roof which rain has access to your attic.

single pane windows has condesation problems . You may also check for irragations leaks sprinkler heads next to the house that may have busted and could be shooting water into the soffit of the house. I have seen entire apartments flooded because of that.

a continuous presence of moisture. Check for a roof leak.
Not enough ventilation. Do you have roof vents? Fans in the bathroom and kitchen to move moisture out?

Or if you live in a very moist environment, get a household dehumidifier.
too much moisture can cause mold
Windows, generally moisture from sweating and being open and getting wet from the outdoor moisture sources, namely rain.

Ceilings could be a leak(s) or possibly overinsulation when the original construction was performed (can't breathe). A building can be overinsulated and condensation forms on interior surfaces.
