What is that clear plastic that they use to encase things in?

I saw an episode of TRADING SPACES some time ago and they made a little diarama with the mans' collectible hot wheel cars. They then made a low wall all around it and poured in some liquid that hardened into clear plastic, encasing the diarama in it. Does anyone know what that liquid was, and where I could buy it?What is that clear plastic that they use to encase things in?
Maybe a craft or hobby store? What is that clear plastic that they use to encase things in?
That was probably a 2-part resin... either a polyester resin or an epoxy resin. Those can be purchased at craft, hobby, and art supply stores, and epoxy resin can also be purchased at hardware and home improvement stores (where it's also referred to as ';bartop resin';).

If the resin layer was fairly shallow, then it was probably an epoxy resin (which is better to use than polyester if you can for several reasons). If it was deep, then probably a polyester resin (or a polyester covered with a layer/coat of epoxy).

There's much more info about the two kinds of resin (and some variations of epoxy resins) as well as some other ways to simulate resins on this page of my site, if you want to check it out:

You mean resin? They do those table tops at some roadside restaurants in that.
